How often should I go to reformer pilates?

As they say “consistency is key” - so exactly how consistent should I be?

The ideal amount of classes would be 3, or even 4, per week. Being consistent with this amount of classes would allow you to rapidly improve while also allowing your body to rest.

However, this estimate neglects many factors: whether you are recovering from an injury, whether you participate in other forms of exercise, whether your busy schedule even allows you to make it to classes that often. The truth is, everyone’s lives are different, and so are our bodies. What works for another, may not work for you.

If I only go to 1 class per week, will I experience any results? Reformer pilates is a journey, not a destination. By going to 1 class per week, you will be able to improve your strength, mobility, flexibility etc.. Showing up matters, even if you can only make it to 1 class a week - you will feel the impact. It is also important to remember, Reformer pilates is not just about physical transformations. It’s about your entire body’s alignment, including your connection to your mind. Breathing into the exercises, focusing on where you feel the movements, getting in touch with how you feel has a greater impact on our overall mental health. Even the act of taking time out of your day to spend an hour for only yourself is an act of love and will impact your life positively.

How can I maximise the reformer pilates impact even if I can’t go as often as I’d like? Reformer pilates was not designed to be done on its own. You can supplement your training by going for walks, swimming, mat pilates, yoga or going to the gym. Moving your body in any safe way that feels right for you is a wonderful way to live.
